SUMMARY
This article explains why Audium ports may not be released while testing applications in Tellme Studio.
SYMPTOMS
An application is being tested on Tellme Studio, and an error message such as "Due to heavy call volume...please hold" is played to the caller. Restarting the application server that Audium Call Services is running on fixes the problem, and future calls work normally. This problem is generally more common on Audium Call Services installations that have few ports.
RESOLUTION
While testing applications with Tellme Studio (or any other voice browser) it is common to change the URL that the voice browser is pointing to, to switch between applications to test. However, when this is done on Tellme Studio, the URL is immediately accessed to ensure that it is valid. This has the unfortunate consequence of tying up an Audium Call Services port. This can be easily avoided by using a dispatch page.
Create a flat VoiceXML page that then routes the caller to whichever Audium application you wish to test, and register the URL of this page with Tellme Studio. Now, when Tellme Studio validates the URL by visiting it, it no longer ties up an Audium Call Services port. This fix has the additional benefit of enabling the developer to change the application that Tellme Studio is directed to by editting a local file rather than logging in to the Tellme Studio website.
