SUMMARY

This article describes how voice elements use multiple grammars.

SYMPTOMS

Developer would like to use more than one grammar in a voice element (for example, a Form voice element), but is unsure of the consequences.

RESOLUTION

Yes, voice elements can use many grammars at once.  As is shown in the example code in the Scope of Grammars section of the VoiceXML 2.0 Specification, multiple grammars can be present within a single voice element. Because of this, grammars you specify in Audium Builder for Studio do not need to be appended to one another, they are all individually present in the VoiceXML that is produced by the voice element at runtime.

If you would like to read more about grammars, we recommend that you take a look at the Speech Recognition Grammar Specification (SRGS).
