SUMMARY

This article explains how SSML can be included in TTS strings.

SYMPTOMS

Developer would like to add SSML markup to the TTS strings included in an Audium application that is being developed.

RESOLUTION

In Audium Studio, no special actions need to be taken; simply include the SSML markup in the TTS strings of the voice elements' configuration

However, in Audium 3.2.x and 3.3.x, use with some voice browsers requires special handling to include SSML markup, and use with other voice browsers does not allow SSML markup at all.  If you are using one of these versions of Audium software and are experiencing difficulties when SSML markup is included, first try adding CDATA tags around the SSML markup.  If this does not solve the problem, please contact your gateway vendor to ensure that your gateway supports SSML markup.
