SUMMARY

Explains why some users running Microsoft Windows cannot start the Audium Builder.

SYMPTOMS

The Audium Builder does not load correctly.  One of the following behaviors occurs instead:

1) An error message flashes on the screen
2) A blank DOS window flashes on the screen briefly and nothing else happens
3) Nothing happens

RESOLUTION

One of the following is causing a Builder startup error:

1. You did not reboot your computer after installing Audium
2. The AUDIUM_HOME variable is not specified
3. There is a problem with your Audium license files (incorrect location, expired, wrong IP address)
4. You are running an unsupported version of Microsoft Windows
5. Your Builder shortcut file is not working correctly

* Reboot your computer if you have not done so after installation

* Make sure that the environment variable for AUDIUM_HOME is set correctly:
1. Run the "regedit" application (administrator privileges are required to make registry changes).
2. Follow path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ApacheTomcat\ Parameters
3. Modify "JVM Option Count" to 3 (make sure it's in decimal format).
4. Create a new "String Value" and give it the name: "JVM Option Number 2"
5. 5. Double-click the newly created string value.
6. Under "Value data:" enter "-DAudium.Home=AUDIUM_HOME" where AUDIUM_HOME is the full path of the Audium directory (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Audium\").
7.  Restart Windows.

* Ensure that you are running Audium on a supported version of Windows.  Audium supports Windows NT service pack 4 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.  Audium may work with other versions of Windows, but unpredictable behavior may occur

* Make sure that your license files are located in the correct directory

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Audium\license
2. Confirm that both Audium_License and Audium_Signature files are both present in the directory.  If files are not present, copy the license files provided into this directory.
3. Launch the Builder

* Make sure that your license files have not expired and that the correct IP is specified.  If either of these errors occur, the corresponding error message should be displayed when starting the Builder.  However, to make sure that Windows is not closing the popup prematurely, follow the steps below for launching the Builder form the command line.

* Try launching the Builder from the command line instead of running the shortcut.

1. Open a command prompt (Start->Run->"cmd")
2. Change the directory to the builder directory (eg c:\  cd c:\Program Files\Audium\builder)
3. Type Startbuilder.cmd
4. If the Builder launches correctly, there is a problem with your shortcut file - make sure that your shortcut target is "C:\Program Files\Audium\builder\startBuilder.cmd" and the "start in" directory is "C:\Program Files\Audium\builder\"  (note: replace locations as appropriate for the location of your installation)
5. If the Builder still does not launch correctly, follow the instructions provided in the error message
